In the latest video from Alex Ross Art, Alex talks about the influences behind his classic Marvel characters:

"The original Jack Kirby group of Marvel characters is one that I always connect with ' so I try to translate that and put it into my art"

With the upcoming release of The Defenders on Netflix, excitement is building for the latest version of this Marvel team.

This grouping of The Defenders features Marvel's street-level heroes: Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and Daredevil.

The Original Defenders

Alex talks about his early experiences with The Defenders:

"The Original Defenders is one of those groups I grew up reading, and the core version of that was Hulk with Sub-Mariner and Doctor Strange"

He also gives a behind-the-scenes look at his early influences ' including the iconic illustrations of Rich Buckler.

At SDCC 2017, Alex released a new mini-canvas with The Original Defenders. He shares the specific Rich Buckler illustrations that inspired this piece:

"There was a favorite cover of mine from the 70's that I loved so much, that had The Defenders attacking a bunch of demons. I took inspiration from that Rich Buckler illustration and made it my own"

The Avengers

Of course any disucssion of Marvel Teams also includes The Avengers ' the most famous collection of superheroes from the Marvel universe.

"The Avengers is frankly one of the best comics ever written and certainly it's one of the coolest lineups of characters. It's always been such a cool treasure trove of heroes"

Alex's work always shows deep reverence for the comic artists who came before him. He cites Jack Kirby and John Buscema as pivotal influences in his depictions of The Avengers.
