Alex Ross at the MoPop Gallery!
Alex Ross Art and Museum of Popular Culture (MoPop) are excited to present the work of Alex Ross, on display now at the MoPop Gallery in Seattle, WA.
We spoke with Chris Maresca, Director of Retail at MoPop, who helped bring Ross's work into the MoPop Gallery.
Can you tell us a little bit about MoPop ' your mission and history?
My name is Chris Maresca and I'm the Director of Retail at MoPOP Museum. The Museum of Pop Culture's mission is to make creative expression a life-changing force by offering experiences that inspire and connect our communities. No matter your fandom, MoPop is a gathering place for those looking to celebrate what they love.
How did you first discover the work of Alex Ross?
Hmm' It's difficult to remember the first time I saw the incredible artistry of Alex Ross, probably his Anthrax covers. I also recall noticing numerous comic book covers that continuously broke the mold and stood out from the crowd while browsing comic shops.
What about Ross's work made you interested in bringing it in for a MoPop exhibit?
Alex truly is a visionary artist who continues to push himself artistically and visually. It's hard to imagine how he can make a piece of art even better, but his work continues to grow, evolve and take on a life of its own. Not only in scale and complexity, but in the deep emotional connection one feels when viewing his masterpieces.
Can you tell us a little bit about specific pieces on display?
We currently have a wonderful assortment of Alex Ross canvases and video content on display. Here are some highlights' there's the entire Marvel SHADOWS series, which includes realistic shadow portraits of Captain America, Spiderman, Iron Man, Hulk, and Thor.
